A PROLIFIC burglar has been banned for three years from entering a Jewish district of Salford.
Keith Doyle was jailed for 18 months at Manchester Crown Court after preying on residents during a five-week crime spree.
He targeted families in Broughton Park last summer - the biggest Jewish community in Britain outside London.
At Manchester Crown Court, Doyle, 25, of Dudley Street, Higher Broughton, Salford, pleaded guilty to burgling homes in Kersal Gardens, Roston Road and Okeover Road, and trying to steal from three other nearby addresses.
He also admitted taking a Jaguar car without consent.
An anti-social behaviour order imposed on conviction runs until 2012. As well as banning him from the area, it prohibits him from acting in a way that might cause harassment, alarm or distress to people anywhere in the city, and from entering any garden or yard without consent.
Coun David Lancaster, community safety spokesman, said: "We are determined to protect our communities from this type of persistent criminal behaviour."
As reported in the M.E.N. in December, Broughton Park was among areas on the Salford and Bury border that were targeted by axe-wielding robbers with two homes being raided.
Last year, overall crime in Salford was down 16 per cent and burglary 9.5pc.
Police patrols have been stepped up in the past in the district during Jewish High Holy Days and mounted police have patrolled areas around synagogues.
Police have given advice on how Jewish families can ensure they do not become victims of burglary or car theft while they are away from their home during religious festivals.
